Complete the Look: The Perfect Accessories to Match Your Communion Dress!

At Crystal & Pearl, we offer a full range of accessories to perfectly complement every dress in our collection. Whether you're searching for veils, tiaras, headpieces, gloves, bags, or shoes, we've got you covered. Our complete accessory collection is available exclusively in-store during opening hours. However, if you spot something you love, feel free to reach out, and we’ll be happy to assist you in making it yours! Here is some ideas for styling your communion dress and elevating your little princesses look.

A great tip for choosing the perfect accessories for your child’s communion day is to plan her hairstyle in advance. The way her hair is styled will influence how hairpieces, tiaras, and veils will sit, so having a clear idea of the look you’re going for will help you select the accessories that will complement her hairstyle beautifully. By coordinating both, you'll ensure everything sits perfectly and enhances her overall look!

We also have our own bespoke range of accessories designed in house at Crystal & Pearl! As customisation is our specialty, you are able to customise our accessories to match your dresses better! For example, you can alter the beading to pearl, glass, diamante or even all three if you really wanted! it's completely your choice.

Another great way to enhance the look of your dress is by adding an underskirt. If you’re looking for a bit more volume in the skirt, an underskirt can do wonders! You can choose to add three hoops for the ultimate fullness, or for a more subtle lift, one or two hoops might be just what you need. It’s a simple yet impactful way to elevate your dress’s silhouette.

You might not realize how much of a difference it can make, so I’ll share some images below to show the transformation an underskirt can bring to your dress!

Before After

Preparing your dress for the big day!

At Crystal & Pearl, we ensure every detail is taken care of to make your little one’s communion day truly special. Before your final fitting appointment, your dress undergoes a thorough quality check and professional steaming. This guarantees it meets our high standards and looks flawless for your little princess.

Once the dress is lovingly placed in our signature pink C&P dress bag, it’s ready to stay pristine until the big day. This may sound simple, but we can’t stress it enough! When opening your dress bag, gently place a finger between the zip and the fabric to create a barrier. This will help prevent the dress from catching on the zipper, avoiding any accidental rips. The last thing you want before your big day is the added stress of a tear in the dress, so take a moment to ensure it's opened safely for a smooth, worry-free experience!

We also recommend scheduling a practice day about two weeks before the communion. Have your child try the dress on to ensure the perfect fit and check for any last-minute tweaks that might be needed. This gives you plenty of time to address any adjustments for an stress-free experience.

Finally, about four or five days before your little one's communion day, we recommend taking the dress out of its bag and allowing it to hang in a safe place. This will give the dress time to relax and fall into its natural shape. If needed, you can also gently steam the dress at home using a hand steamer to achieve your desired look. This little extra step will ensure your dress looks fresh and perfect for the big day!

Getting Ready On Your Communion Day!

Getting your little one ready for her communion day is such an exciting time, but if you're unsure about the best way to put on her dress, don't worry—I'm here to guide you through it digitally!

Step 1: Underskirt First

If your child is wearing an underskirt, make sure to put it on first and tie it securely. Double-check that it's snug and won’t fall down during the day.

Step 2: Putting on the Dress

When putting on the dress, we recommend gently pulling it over the head. Just be extra cautious if makeup or tan has been applied to avoid any unwanted marks on your white dress. Once the dress is on, make sure all the layers are pulled down properly and that none are tucked into the bodice—this is a common mistake!

Step 3: Buttoning Up

Now for the buttons! We find it’s easiest to start buttoning from the bottom and work your way up. If you struggle with buttons, some of the stylists at Crystal & Pearl use crochet hooks, but I’ve personally found that having longer nails can be quite helpful. A few of our customers also recommend using hair grips to assist with buttoning.

Step 4: Final Fastening

Most of our dresses include bows or capes and are fastened with clear poppers, I have found that sometimes these can be extremely figety. The best way to attach these poppers is to put your hand underneath the skirt layers to get a steady grip to attach. I promise this is a game changer.

I hope this step-by-step guide has helped you and with these simple steps, you’ll have your child dressed and ready to shine on her special day in no time!

Cleaning your communion Dress

We understand—accidents happen! Whether it's spills, makeup marks, or the unexpected messes that come with kids, don't worry—we’ve got you covered.

First things first, don’t panic! And please, step away from the washing machine—our dresses are hand-wash only. For the best results, we recommend taking your white holy communion dress to a professional wedding dress cleaning service to ensure it stays in pristine condition and doesn't get damaged, especially if your communion day is still ahead.

But if you're unsure or need assistance, feel free to contact us at Crystal & Pearl. We're here to help with any questions or concerns to ensure your dress stays as beautiful as the day you received it!
